In such cases, known as unisured driver or untraced driver cases, your claim will usually go through the Motor Insurance Bureau. The Bureau known as the MIB for short, is an official body jointly funded by the government and the main insurance companies.
This is a complicated procedure and so you must seek legal advice. There are also strict times limits for making claims of this type so don't delay getting advice.
Don't be put off by the driver who says that he is not insured for the car he was driving. In these cases either the MIB will pay your claim or, more likely, the insurer of the car will have to pay you. Sounds strange but it is true - get advice from a MASS solicitor.
All MASS Members can assist you with these types of claims.
